Proposition Bets
Proposition Bets are for the suckers at the Craps table. They take up the most room on the Craps table and are right in the centre. The reason behind this is because players will automatically be drawn to these bets because they are right in front of them. The proposition bets looks like they could offer good value, but in fact they don’t. Unless you are running hot and feel like you can’t lose, you should avoid these bets at all costs.
Hardaway Bets
The first type of proposition bet is what is known as a Hardaway bet. To win this bet you need a 4, 6, 8 or 10 to come up as a double, before a 7 is rolled. So in other words you need a double 2, 3, 4, or 5 to come. The double 2 and double 5 have a house edge of 11.1% and pays 7-1. The double 3 and 4 have a house edge of 9.09% and pays 9-1. As you can see the house has an extremely high edge, higher than most online slot machines.
House Edges of Proposition Bets
The next proposition bets that you will come across are the one roll bets. These can offer better odds than the Hardaway bets but have an even worse house edge.
We have outlined the one roll bets below:
Any Craps – This means that you are betting that the next roll to come up will be a craps. Any Craps pays 7-1 and has a house edge of 11.1%
Double Ones – You can bet on a two coming on the next roll. Obviously the only way to do that is by rolling a double one. This pays 30-1 and has a house edge of 13.89%
3 – You are betting that the next roll will be a 3. This bets pays 15-1 and has a house edge of 11.1%
11 – If you make this bet the next roll has to be an 11 for you to win. This pays 15-1 and has a house edge of 11.1%
Double 6 – You are betting that the shooter will roll a 12 on the next roll. This pays 30-1 and has a house edge of 13.89%
Any 7 – You would assume that this is a fairly safe bet. However, this is certainly not the case. This bet only pays 4-1 and has a remarkable house edge of 16.67%
Now that you know what proposition bets are and the house edges that come along with them it is important to play them only on the rare occasion. If you play these Craps bets any more regularly than that you are sure to lose a fair chunk of money. I would strongly recommend not implementing these bets into your Craps strategy and avoid at all costs. At the end of the day they are a sucker bet for a reason.
